Arizona Child Abuse Hotline: What you need to know: Join us for an important workshop that is geared for any school personnel, counselors, administrators, safe environment coordinators, or safe environment trainers. Chelsea Pilon, MSW, Program and Project Specialist, Child Abuse Hotline will present on the many aspects of being a mandatory reporter. What does Arizona law say about Mandatory Reporting? Chelsea will clarify what it means to have a ‘reasonable’ belief and your personal responsibility to report suspected child abuse. She will also explain the primary functions of the hotline and what to expect should you need to make this call. Christian Service Awards Workshop: Join us at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 400 E. Monroe St, Phoenix from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. to get helpful tips on how to complete the Christian Service Awards scholarship application. The workshop materials will be available in English and Spanish, and a question and answer session in Spanish will follow the presentation.

Recipients of the Christian Service Award display a love and understanding of their Catholic faith and articulate a commitment, not only to performing acts of service, but to living a service focused life.

The Christian Service Awards are $8,000-$12,000 scholarships given to students who:

-Are practicing Catholics registered within the Diocese of Phoenix;

-Exemplify Christ-centered behavior through volunteer service to parish, school, and community;

-Plan to attend a Catholic high school within the Diocese of Phoenix;

-Are in 8th grade at the time of application; and

-Have volunteered 100+ hours to parish, school and community between August 15 of 6th grade year and August 15 of 8th grade year.

Theology of the Body Mentoring Program: Do you have a stirring in your heart to deepen your faith and your understanding of St. John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body?” Well, there is an exciting new program starting in the fall just for you! The St. John Paul II Resource Center, in collaboration with the Kino Catechetical Institute, is offering an in-depth, three-phase program to provide ongoing formation in St. John Paul II’s “theology of the body” along with his particular Trinitarian spirituality. Come and join Katrina J. Zeno, MTS for the first phase which will lay the framework and set the context for Theology of the Body.

This program begins with an all day retreat on September 9, with weekly classes commencing on September 20. Location for the retreat is in Old Town Scottsdale and the weekly classes will be held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 400 E. Monroe St, Phoenix. Theology of the Body Mini-Course | Development of Catholic Theology of Marriage in the 20th-Century: Join us from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 400 E Monroe St, Phoenix, for the first in a series of TOB mini-courses for those who want to deepen their knowledge of the faith but don’t have the time to participate in the Full TOB Mentoring Program. Beginning in September, Katrina J. Zeno, MTS will be teaching a Wednesday night “mini-course” as part of a new TOB Mentoring Program. This course will follow the development of the Catholic Church’s understanding and articulation of marriage from a juridical (i.e., legal) viewpoint of a contract with”rights” and “ends” to a more personalistic viewpoint of a covenant ordered toward the perfection of the spouses and the generation of new life.

If you are looking to continue your formation in the Catholic faith – especially in the area of marriage, human sexuality, and human identity – this is an excellent opportunity to do so. Theology of the Body and its Application to the Health Care Professional: This weekend spiritual retreat, at Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E Lincoln Dr, Scottsdale, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday September 29- Sunday October 1 at 12 p.m., will provide talks on St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body and its application for health care professionals with small group discussions, Mass, Adoration, Confession, times for prayer ministry and socializing. Celebrating Marriage: Come celebrate marriage at this annual diocesan event at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, consisting of a beautiful Jubilee Mass and luncheon. This year’s speakers at the luncheon are Peter and Cynthia Lemieux, marriage mentors and formators, presenting “Marriage: Come Follow Me.” Mass begins at 10 a.m.; luncheon follows in the parish hall. Those celebrating 25th, 40th, and 50th + jubilarian anniversaries receive a special blessing, a group photo with Bishop Olmsted, and frame-worthy certificate when pre-registered. $55 per couple for luncheon. $30 for individuals wishing to attend. Corpus Christi Parish Pilgrimage 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima: In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, Corpus Christi is inviting guests to make an 11 day pilgrimage to holy sites in Portugal, Spain and France. Infant Baptism and RCIA – Professional Development Day: Do you lead RCIA, or teach Infant Baptism preparation in your parish? Whether you’re a new leader, or a veteran with years of experience, this day is designed to inspire and rejuvenate. Join us for a day full of practical tips, resources, fellowship and formation as we review best practices and new resources in these vital fields of evangelization.

For leaders in Infant Baptism, the session is from 9:30 a.m. – noon.

2nd Gala Pro-life Dinner: an annual event were pro-life coordinators, advocates and organizations gather each in a formal setting, at Val Vista Lakes Clubhouse, 1600 E Lakeside Dr, Gilbert from 6-9 p.m., to enrich and support the Office of Parish Hispanic Leadership Support through donations with an emphasis on respect life and evangelization outreach to the Hispanic community. Emmaus Ministries’ Retreat for Grieving Parents: at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Dr., Scottsdale. Organized by grieving parents who have lost children of their own and supported by spiritual leaders who understand this ministry, we provide an opportunity for parents to gather in a sacred, warm, and compassionate space with others who know their pain.
