Bridges to Healing (Brought to You by Front Lines Ministries and Skyway Church)

  • Spiritual Guidance for Combat Trauma Sufferers and Those Who Love Them - When John Blehm returned from Vietnam he was anxious to get on with his life. Three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars attested to his courage and will, but it was not enough to win the battle that raged inside and threatened to destroy his life. John’s struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is told in his book “Angel of Death”. Now John and his wife Karen help others overcome this devastating enemy.
  • Bridge to Healing (led by John) offers spiritual solutions to those struggling with deployment related stress or PTSD. It does this by bringing together insights of the medical and counseling communities with timeless Biblical principles.
  • Band of Sisters: Christ-centered Healing for Wives of Combat Veterans (led by Karen) offers comfort and practical help to the wives of combat veterans suffering with the hidden wounds of war. Insights from the medical and counseling community are wrapped in Biblical principles and enhanced by the shared experiences of other military wives (mothers, sisters, adult daughters, girlfriends are also welcome).

" The reality of war is that everyone gets wounded. Some wounds heal rapidly, but some last for a lifetime. The reality is that the wounds of heart, soul and spirit have a spiritual component that is not being adequately addressed. Despite the valiant efforts of many organizations and the commitment of billions of dollars to address these issues, there remains a serious gap-the faith gap”. Major General Robert F. Dees, US Army Retired; Executive Director, Military Ministry

Dear Reader:

These groups were among the first in the country to begin using a faith-based approach.  The Combat Trauma Healing Manual and When War Comes Home, developed by Military Ministry, Campus Crusade for Christ, Intl. are the framework of the groups.  These groups are now models for groups in several states.  The Leader’s Guides for these two manuals (available on line, free of charge) use the experience of founding and facilitating these two groups.  The writers serve as peer mentors to others starting similar groups in Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Washington State and others.

A VA counselor is now referring couples to us who ask for a “spiritual approach”.

This is cutting edge ministry, making great strides helping combat trauma sufferers and their families find healing and a “new normal”.  These manuals and groups are being promoted on Military Ministry’s main Face Book page, with over 7,000 “friends” from all over the world.Thank you for helping us spread the word throughout Skyway’s membership and beyond to the body of Christ in the West Valley.  We know there are many in this area who could benefit from these groups, if they only knew about them.

Sincerely,

John and Karen Blehm
