Valley Catholic Singles Ministry (VCS)

The Community of the Blessed Sacrament Church is the founding parish.  This ministry is possible with the collaboration and support from the parish.  We are a fellowship ministry.

Mission Statement: VCS provides enriching opportunities for singles to socialize, discover, pray, and serve Christ in a respectful, faith-filled environment.

Overview:  This ministry is part of Community of the Blessed Sacrament's Parish Life Ministries under Stewardship Pillar of Hospitality.

The Structure:

  • Each week, the VCS will hold Prayer or Formation gatherings - i.e. bible studies, rosary and learning opportunities.   This is a great way to come and get to know members in the group.
  • In addition to the weekly gatherings, the group will host different social activities and volunteer/service outreach activities.
  • This ministry joins other ministries in together particpating in parish’s 4-Pillar Stewardship process of hospitality, prayer, formation and service activities within the parish and greater community.

Members:  Members are single (single, divorced annulled/not annulled, legally separated, widowed, or a single parent), Roman Catholic and live in the greater Scottsdale and Northeast Phoenix area. Suggested membership age is 25+.  Membership is free.  If interested, eMail VCS Ministry.

Pastor Requirement:  Each member is expected to complete and be current with the Diocesan Called to Protect/Safe Environment Training and have a completed Volunteer Application Form on file in parish office.

Goals:

  • Provide a place where single Catholics can work with other Catholic singles of the area and grow in their relationship with God.
  • Provide a place where single Catholics can become more active with other singles in their home Church.
  • Provide a place where single Catholics can reestablish their relationship with the Catholic Church.
  • Provide opportunities to support our parish’s mission and vision.
  • Share God’s gifts through prayer and service.

What we are not:  We are not singles groups of the past.  If you have tried others and have not found success, try ours.  Our unique approach caters to a variety of individuals and you have the ability to pick and choose what you are looking for.  Do you just want to socialize with other singles….you can.  Do you want to pray and learn with other singles….you can just do that as well.  Your level of participation is up to you.  You cannot do too little or too much.  Of course, we are excited about our group and we want you to come to everything, but we understand that is not realistic.

Resources:

  • Golf Lessons:  Susie Urry at Continental Golf Course, 602-809-2983(Cell number) provides adult group golf lessons.  A 60 minute lesson for 2-6 adults is $100.00 total.  For those men and women who want to learn how to play golf without embarrassment, this would be a great place and price to start.  If you get six folks that equals $16.60 a piece for the hour.  Then you can buy a bucket of balls ($7.00) to practice what you learned and go again in two weeks and have another lesson.  Just a thought for those wanting to learn without going broke!
  • Hikers: Come out for a hike! We have a small group of hikers who blaze the trails every weekend, usually on a Saturday morning. The hikes are moderately difficult, and usually last about 2 hours. If you are comfortable with the difficulty level of Pinnacle Peak or Squaw Peak, you will do just fine. Please eMail VCS Ministry for hike details. You are welcome to bring a friend.
