Parish Nurse/Faith Community Nurse

Job Description

Faith community nursing is the specialized practice of professional nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting wholistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.

Duties

The Faith Community Nurse will promote the importance of wellness and safety integrating spiritual care through parish wide education, provide a safe/private environment to discuss personal / family wellness and safety concerns, make home, hospital and nursing home visits, as indicated, organize support/self help groups, establish and manage nurse volunteers, relationship volunteers, and is a referral liaison to available community resources and/or social services.  Assist the parish with safety and risk management activities; i.e. CPR training, Defibrillator maintenance and audit, first aid supply management, usher safety/incident management training, etc.

Length of Commitment

Faith Community Nurse will serve for one year; position and position description will be re-evaluated yearly.

Time Required

Faith Community Nurse volunteer will work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Qualifications

Faith Community Nurse minimum qualifications include:  A baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing with academic preparation in community nursing. Registered nurse with a valid Arizona nurse license using the nursing process built on evidence based practice.  Preferred: Faith Community nurse training and/or certification.

Benefits/Requirements

Office space, mileage, reimbursement per mile, liability rider on current personal insurance policy, provided at their expense. Depending on parish budget funding availability, position(s) may be volunteer or paid-staff.
