What is Cursillo?

Cursillo is defined as a "short course in Christianity." It is a method to live out our life with what is fundamental for being a Christian. The Catholic Cursillo Movement started in Spain and so uses Spanish words.

Who Can Attend a Cursillo?

Must be at least 18 years of age; a Catholic in good standing and able to receive the Sacraments; invited by and sponsored by another Cursillista and have the approval of the Pastor. If you are married, it is highly recommended that both spouses make their Cursillo. The only other requirement:  bring an open mind and an open heart with you to the weekend at Mount Claret Retreat Center.  One last thing – no one is to well informed or too spiritual to make a Cursillo.  There are priests and religious who make their Cursillo, as well as, lay teachers of the faith. There are people who know very little and those who know a great deal.   No matter, your knowledge of the faith or your spirituality, Cursillo could be for you.

What is a Cursillista?

It is a man or woman who has made a three-day Cursillo weekend.

What is a Fourth Day Group?

It is group of Cursillistas that meet regularly to share their lives as Christians and their apostolic action.

What is an Ultreya?

It is social and spiritual gathering to renew and strengthen our Cursillo and Christian spirit by being around fellow Cursillistas.

How do I find a Sponsor to become a Cursillista

By contacting our Pastor or our Parish Representatuves - Brian and Jen Kelly at 480-563-2422 or jen.kelly@cox.net.

Why do I need to have a sponsor?

The Cursillo weekend is a strong experience and not for everyone. The people selected to make the weekend must be far enough along on their walk with Christ to understand the messages of the weekend.

How do I become a Sponsor?

By making a Cursillo weekend and knowing someone you consider to be a good candidate.

How can I make a Donation to Cursillo Movement?

Please pray about making a one-time or regular donation to the Phoenix Cursillo Center/Movement.  Expenses have gone up over the years and the economy has decreased the financial support that the Phoenix movement has received in the past.  If you'd like to donate you can do it on line click here.
