Catechetical Ministry

Forming in Faith, Equipping for Discipleship

 

Mission Statement: The Office of Catechetical Ministries exists to form adults, youth and children toward a lived knowledge of Jesus Christ as he is known in the Catholic faith.

 

Sacramental Policy of the Diocese of Phoenix – Sacrament preparation is in addition to attending weekly faith formation or Catholic School. Before sacrament preparation begins baptized children must have completed one year of faith formation and regularly attends

Sunday Mass. For students who attend Catholic School the weekly formation classes are waived. Sunday Mass attendance and participation in sacrament preparation classes are

required.

First Reconciliation / Penance / First Confession – usually celebrated in 2nd grade. Formation classes take place during the fall semester.  Participants have the option of celebrating with the Parish community or the service offered for them.

Confirmation / First Eucharist – usually celebrated in 3rd grade.

Formation classes begin in January. The sacrament is received at Blessed Sacrament in the spring based on a date available through the Diocese of Phoenix.  The Bishop, or Bishop’s representative will preside over the Liturgy.

Confirmation Only – usually celebrated in 3rd grade (except by those who were not confirmed at the time they received First Eucharist). Parent Participation Required:

  • Must attend with child all preparation and parent meetings
  • Faithfully bring child to Sunday Mass
  • Regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Guide your child in a prayerful home life

Family registration folders are available in the CM office.
